DUMBO (which stands for ‘down under the Manhattan and Brooklyn overpasses’) is one of my favorite NYC neighborhoods. It’s close to Manhattan (or ‘the city’ as we natives call it), it has a European feel to it, it has a great bookstore (Powerhouse Arena), a carousel, a waterfront park and amazing views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the skyline of Manhattan across the way. If you walk over the Great Bridge from Manhattan to Brooklyn, this is where you wind up and it’s a great place to rest and grab a bite, a coffee or a drink before heading back to Manhattan.
And once a year, it hosts the DUMBO Arts Festival which is going on right now and still happening today (Sunday, September 28th). I kind of stumbled into the Arts Festival yesterday when I went down there looking for something else and snapped a few photos. It can get crowded down there but well worth visiting, especially since Smorgasburg is down there today and every Sunday until Thanksgiving.
